The Voice- Blind Auditions Day One

Spread the love

Tonight, NBC aired their opener for the 10th anniversary and 20th season of the Voice. Host Carson Daly along with the coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend were joined this season by Nick Jonas. The pop artist Nick Jonas has coached on the show previously, although he was not in the picture last year during the pandemic when I started seriously following the show.

Kenzie Wheeler

The blind auditions began tonight, and Team Kelly took the first contestant, Kenzie Wheeler, after Kelly Clarkson blocked Blake Shelton. Kenzie is a mullet sporting country singer who once opened for Charlie Daniels. Kenzie received unanimous consideration from all four coaches. He is from Dover Florida.

Dana Monique

Coach Nick Jonas received the second artist to audition which came as a shock. I was sure she would pick the seasoned John Legend, as her musical styles more reflected Legend’s sound. Dana Monique is 41 years old and from Houston, Texas.

Cam Anthony

Team Blake received the third artist of the night. Cam Anthony is a 19-year-old from Philadelphia, PA. Cam’s musical career began after a video of him doing a Bruno Mars song went viral. Cam has performed on the Ellen DeGeneres show and has even performed at the White House.

Christine Cain

Christine Cain who hails from Pasadena, California, chose John Legend over Kelly Clarkson, giving him his first contestant for the season. John called her singing “soulful.” Christine Cain said that she was excited to bring a little “flirt” to the stage.

Madison Curbelo

Madison Curbelo had a pleasant voice and did a wonderful rendition of, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” as she strummed an acoustic guitar. Unfortunately, none of the coaches turned their chairs to select her as a team member.

Pete Mroz

45-year-old singer, Pete Mroz, from Nashville, Tennessee received chair turns from coaches John Legend and Blake Shelton. He had previously performed with Blake Shelton over 25 years ago.Pete took a break from his music in order to find a more stable job. He came to “The Voice” this season, in order to prove to his family that you are never too old to follow your dreams. Pete chose the Cowboy and as of tonight, is once again riding with Team Blake.

Devan Jones

Devan Jones of Denver, Colorado received a one chair turn from Jonas brother Nick. Devan who had previously performed in karaoke competitions and sang in a Swahili band has a wonderful register of sounds in his singing voice. Devon is hopeful to make his dreams of becoming a professional singer a reality this season.

Raine Stern

Multi-instrumentalist Raine Stern received chair turns from all the coaches except, Kelly Clarkson. Raine also chose to be on Team Nick. Raine has had a lifelong journey in songwriting. This 22-year-old is from New Glarus, Wisconsin. She believes her music is a tool where her views and beliefs to inspire change will be heard by many.

Madison Marigold

Madison Marigold is a bilingual artist fluent in English and Chinese. Although she showed talent in the song she chose, the coaches all passed on her performance with the mutual feelings that she needed more experience.

Corey Ward

John Legend and Kelly Clarkson both turned chairs for contestant Corey Ward. Corey has a unique voice and a big heart. This is Corey’s second go round at competition on the show. Last year, the chairs did not turn in his favor. The Hartsville, South Carolina native will begin season 20 with coach Kelly Clarkson.

Victor Solomon

Victor Solomon felt pressure singing “Glory” a John Legend song in front of it’s original artist. Blake Shelton turned his chair for the contestant almost instantly. The turn by Blake was quickly followed by Legend and Nick Jonas. Victor is currently a student in North Carolina and says Gospel music is his go to genre. After a duet of, “Ordinary People,” with the legendary John Legend, Victor chose John Legend to be his coach.

Tomorrow night the blind auditions will continue. There is still magic to discover in music.

I am looking forward to this season, I think most all of the contestants show a great deal of talent and I am believing that talent will only get better with the aid of the voice coaches. From what I have seen on opening night, the competition will be fierce this season.
